Cyprus state TV has released new information on the EgyptAir hijack, claiming the hijacker could be a deluded romantic.
Flight MS181, an Airbus A320 carrying 81 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo, was hijacked and forced to divert to Larnaca airport in Cyprus this morning.
The man who hijacked the plane claimed to be wearing an explosives belt, but allowed all passengers to leave the aircraft when it landed in Larnaca.
According to local sources, the hijacker could just be looking to deliver a note to his ex-wife.

A letter was later seen by witnesses which backs up the latest claims. Officials have also said it is ‘unlikely’ that the hijacker is in possession of real explosives.

Since you are here
Since you are here, we wanted to ask for your help.
Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.
Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
