The Tate brothers have been referred to counter-terror police over an alleged trip to Russia to train with Russian soldiers.

As reported by LBC, Tory MP Alicia Kearns has written to the Home Office and referred the matter to Counter Terrorism Policing.

She argued that the brothers should be examined to find out if the brothers were required to register their trip to Russia, which took place in June this year, under the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme.

This scheme is part of the National Security Act and requires individuals and organisations to transparently register activities carried out in the UK at the direction of foreign powers or state-controlled entities.

It comes as the brothers posted a 40-minute-long video last month to their social media accounts in which they travel to Russia, visiting landmarks, making jokes about George Floyd and boasting about their wealth.

A large part of the video shows the brothers dressed in military-style gear which included Russia flag patches in multiple clips.

They are seen taking part in battlefield-style activities at a Russian training ground, including riding in a Soviet-era tank still used by Russia.

The brothers were filmed using a grenade launcher and a ‘flamethrower’, as well as singing a famous Russian song “Katyusha” which is associated with the Soviet wartime era.

Kearns alleged that the trip raises questions into whether the Tate brothers were receiving money from the Russian state or acting under the direction of it, something which, if indeed the case, should have been declared under the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme.

There has been no confirmed breach of legislation or charges from any authority so far and both brothers deny the allegations made by Kearns.
