Donald Trump issued a provocative tweet this morning telling Russia to get ready for US missiles just hours after Moscow’s UN envoy Vasily Nebenzia warned the US against military action.

The US President tweeted: “Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria.

“Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”

His tough rhetoric comes as Western leaders agree to work together to target those responsible for a chemical attack in Douma.

French President Emmanuel Macron said any strikes would target Syrian government chemical facilities.

US President Donald Trump and his Defence Secretary, James Mattis, have cancelled travel plans this week.

Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!

Twitter users have been quick to trawl through the archives, with Anand Giridharadas digging up a tweet from 2013 in which Trump urges the Obama administration to deploy the “element of surprise” in his war efforts.

Another makes reference of World War III, which seems increasingly imminent under the current administration.
