Channel 4 is set to move its national headquarters to Yorkshire after the board selected Leeds over Manchester and Birmingham.

The city, which was praised for its “thriving digital industry and a strong digital talent pool” by Channel 4, was selected after a long consultation process, with Glasgow and Bristol selected as its two new Creative Hubs.

The three new locations are part of the 4 All UK strategy, which was first announced in March, and will mark the biggest change to the structure of the organisation in its 35-year history.

Hundreds of jobs, including key creative decision-makers with significant spending power, will now be based outside the capital, although its current HQ in Horseferry Road will be kept.

The move comes on the back of a large-scale decentralisation of national broadcasters from London which was spearheaded by the BBC’s move to Salford in 2013.

Channel 4 will join other media firms such as Sky in Leeds, which has focused much of its digital and online growth in the city.
