Former Mayor of London Boris Johnson is overwhelming favourite to become the next Prime Minister.

Following the resignation of David Cameron, Johnson is now odds-on favourite to take the Conservative leader job and become the UK’s PM.

Boris is 5/6 to be next Conservative Party leader, well ahead of rivals Theresa May (11/4), Michael Gove (9/2) and Priti Patel (11/1).

Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “Britain voting to leave the EU followed by David Cameron resigning from his position as Prime Minister are two pieces of news that will come as a big surprise to many. Pro-Brexiteer Boris Johnson will be overjoyed with the result and is now the odds-on favourite to be the next Conservative Party leader.

“Whether the Tories wish to install such a devoted Euro-sceptic is yet to be seen, though, and Theresa May, who played her Brexit cards close to her chest, is second in the betting at 11/4.”

Next permanent Conservative Party leader:

5/6
Theresa May
11/4
Michael Gove
9/2

16/1
Sajid Javid
20/1
Phillip Hammond
20/1
George Osborne
20/1
Stephen Crabb

Since you are here, we wanted to ask for your help.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
