A 15-year-old boy today (fri) appeared in court charged with terrorism offences.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of possessing a document or record likely to be useful to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism, namely the ‘anarchist corner’.

The defendant, from Bradford, West Yorks., is also charged with offence under Section 4 of the Explosives Act – making or possession of explosives under suspicious circumstances.

He today (fri) appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Youth Court after being arrested by officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit on August 10.

Wearing grey joggers and a jumper, he was flanked by two security guards and only spoke to confirm his name.

His defence counsel indicated he would be pleading not guilty to both counts during the 30-minute hearing.

His mother shouted from the public gallery “you will be ok” as the teen was led away cuffed to a security guard.

District Judge David Kitson said: “I have deemed the first of these offences, making or possession of an explosive to be a grave crime and the other matter is linked to it.

The teen was remanded in youth detention accommodation to appear at the Old Bailey for a hearing on August 31.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
