A man caught urinating outside a train station was forced to clean up after himself after police gave him a mop and bucket.

British Transport Police said the man was refused travel and asked to leave Worcester railway station at around 1pm on Sunday.

Officers shared a picture of the man cleaning up – describing his actions as “unacceptable” given that the station’s toilets were open.

Today's top tip! If you decide to urinate on 1 of our stations then expect to be given a mop & bucket to clean up after yourself, whilst being supervised. You will then be refused travel like this person found out in #worcester today all whilst a very busy service was emptying pic.twitter.com/mbxfi4GnYa

In a tweet, the force said: “Today’s top tip! If you decide to urinate on 1 of our stations then expect to be given a mop & bucket to clean up after yourself, whilst being supervised.

In a number of posts on Twitter, British Transport Police Three Counties described the decision to hand the man a mop and bucket as “common sense”.

Asked about the “legalisation” behind giving the man the cleaning equipment, the police Twitter account responded by saying: “No legislation used for the mop and bucket part of it.

“Just a bit of common sense as I don’t see why someone should walk through or clean up someone’s else’s mess.”

Police added that the man was refused travel under bylaw four of the Transport Act 2000, which permits officers to stop people using trains if they are intoxicated or in possession of alcohol.
