A father of three with HIV has been jailed for almost seven years after infecting two unsuspecting women with the debilitating virus.
Aaron Sutcliffe, 29, was diagnosed with HIV ten years ago but went on to have sex with the women without telling them.
Both victims, whose lives have “changed irrevocably” since the diagnosis, were in their 20s when they slept with Sutcliffe.
Appearing at Preston Crown Court today (Tue) the defendant was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison for wounding with intent.
Sutcliffe also received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, meaning he must tell anyone he’s in a sexual relationship about his HIV status.
He had previously been handed a Sexual Risk Prevention Order, stating he must give police the name of any prospective sexual partner before having intercourse with them.
Officers would then contact that person to ensure they know about Sutcliffe’s history before giving him written permission to engage with them.
The order also states Sutcliffe, from Fleetwood, Lancs, must not have intercourse without wearing a condom.
The first incident happened between January 2009 and September 2010 and the second between January and May 2016.
The victims cannot be named for legal reasons.
Detective Constable Emma Shuttleworth, of Lancashire Police, said: “Aaron Sutcliffe had numerous opportunities to tell both of his victims that he was HIV-positive and he failed to do so.
“His intention may not have been to harm but he has been as reckless as it is possible to be and he has demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the health of these two women, whose lives and the lives of their families have been changed irrevocably through his actions.”
