At this time of year, with university a distant memory for many and job-hunting no longer seeming like a myth that adults made up to scare us, the future is in the minds of many. As easy as it would be to ignore the alarm and stay in bed in the morning, that just wasn’t what we went through three years of university for and whether you like it or not, it’s time to get out there and begin that job hunt!

Whether you’re going straight for that coveted graduate position, trying to gain some work experience or applying for part time jobs whilst you decide what to do next, it is time to get interview ready. Whether you’re fashion conscious or not, the way that you present yourself on the outside is the first impression a potential employer will have of you, so it’s time to get yourself looking the part!

Suit Up

Whether you’re interviewing for an office job, a building site or a casual weekend gig, always make the effort to dress up. Employers don’t want their team to be doing the bare minimum, and by showing that you like to make an effort with your clothing choices can relate to you making an effort should you get the job! For men a simple shirt tucked in to trousers can really show that you’ve made an effort, and for ladies a fitted dress or shirt and trouser combo can have a similar effect.

Shoes

Footwear should be just as smart as the rest of your outfit. If you’re wearing formal trousers, a pair of casual trainers will stick out like a sore thumb, so wear similarly formal shoes. Ladies, any style of smart shoe that you feel comfortable in is ideal. Don’t feel like you must wear heels if you’re not fully comfortable in them, it isn’t a height contest and any Bambi-style moments will only make you feel embarrassed – but hey, what a way to be remembered!

Minimal Make Up

Now, this is just a matter of opinion, but unless you’re interviewing for a makeup artistry role, keep make up to the bare minimum but enough to make you feel comfortable if it is something that you wear on a daily basis. Think a neutral lip, light blush and not too much eye shadow.
