Four ways to approach well-being across your workforce

No matter what sort of business you work in, once you have had a job for a long time, it can be difficult to maintain your morale. Everyone suffers from work stress and sometimes you feel like the effort you put into your career just isn’t paying off. That is why, as a business owner, it is up to you to make sure that everyone in your work force is supported and that you have a well-being strategy in place. Here are 4 ways to make sure your work team can remain at their most productive.

What is a well-being strategy?

Whether you work in a fast-paced environment or are facing a lot of deadlines, you will find that your employees do suffer a lot from stress from their daily tasks combined with commitments from their personal lives. It can take a lot of juggling to make sure that all tasks are completed, however if you do not check on your employees, you may find that they burn out or quit because they feel unappreciated.

That is why it is crucial that you have a well-being strategy in place. A well-being strategy focuses on the mental health of your employees and the stresses that are in their lives. That way you can figure out how you can accommodate them.

Talking Strategies

It is well known that one of the best forms of therapy is “talking therapy”, where you can speak to a professional about your problems and how you can improve them (and yourself). A similar approach can be taken to a well-being strategy in your workplace. If you are concerned about a specific employee and want see how you can help them, speak to your HR department to organise a meeting about it with the specific person. However, if you are concerned about singling one person out, you can organise a “mental-health meeting” for your team, where you encourage them to speak about their stress at work and share ideas about how it can be improved. This will make your employees feel like their opinions are being genuinely heard.

Virtual Strategies

Sometimes your workers go through stress and pain that they just do not feel comfortable discussing face-to-face. That is why another strategy to discuss work-related stress is an online counselling/ HR system. Private messages can be sent to those who work in the HR department that speak about any problems that the worker is undergoing.

Recognition Strategies

You know that your employees work hard. That is why you need to make sure that they feel rewarded for the contribution they have made towards your business. If your employees have had a hard-hitting sales week, reward them with a bonus or prize to the person who has done the best work. Even simple strategies like “Worker of the month” can boost morale and give workers a reason to remain productive.

Hand-Book Strategies

If you are feeling concerned that you cannot create an effective environment for well-being on your own, don’t worry. You can seek help and professional well-being advice from employee assistance programmes, like Lifeworks, to provide you with strategies to suit both you and your workers. These support services can be accessed through mobile, face-to-face counselling and user experiences.
