The Five Points Brewing Company is the latest of London’s microbreweries to have caught our attention. Based in the heart of East London’s Hackney, the brewery first started to become established in 2013, following their Five Points Pale Ale, and now there are four beers within the brewery’s core range – including Five Points Pale, Railway Porter, Five Points IPA, and Hook Island Red. The latter of which is a full-bodies Red Rye Ale that’s brewed with malted barley and a variation of hops (Chinook, Columbus and Simcoe).
When poured, a thin off-white head rests above a sea of deep copper red Beer. The most prominent aromas are pine, caramel and citrus, while notes of roasted coffee, passion fruit and melon are also on board, meanwhile the taste is seriously malty and the dry finish lends a real bitterness to the drink.
