A popular supermarket chain was let down when its sign malfunctioned spectacularly and now reads: ‘Morons, since 1899’.

Staff at Morrisons in Bridgwater, Somerset, were made aware of the technical glitch after customers posted photographs on social media.

Steve Tomaszewski, who captured a photo, said: “I know I should grow up, and I like the store and staff, but this bulb failure made me smile.”

The photo was circulated on the Bridgwater Matters Facebook page where Julian Gibson said: “I’m sure this is no reflection on the wonderful people who work there.”

Claire Perrins said: “Jo Bone – look our friend Viv works for morons lol! They need to sort that sign it’s definitely no reflection on the lovely people who work there!”

Derek Ross, who also photographed the sign, said: “You couldn’t miss it, especially when it’s dark. I expect they will turn it off tonight unless they already got it fixed.”

Mike French added: “With Supermarket prices going up it sound a fair name for it.”

Morrisons has been able to see the funny side.
