Suella Braverman is set to chair an emergency Cobra meeting to address the “accelerated” terror threat in UK amid heightened terrorism fears fuelled by the crisis in Israel and Gaza.
Protesters took to the streets in London for peaceful protests this weekend, but outbreaks of violence elsewhere in the world have leaders worried that the threat to Jewish communities remains everpresent.
On Sunday, a mob in Russia’s mostly Muslim region of Dagestan stormed the airport in Makhachkala in search of Jewish passengers arriving from Israel.
Local people besieged a hotel in search of Jewish guests and stormed the airport after reports emerged that a flight from Tel Aviv was arriving in the city.
Russian news reports said people in the crowd were shouting antisemitic slogans and tried to storm the plane belonging to Russian carrier Red Wings.
Speaking to reporters, Humza Yousaf said that he stands with the Jewish community in Scotland against antisemitism following the reports from Russia.
Commenting on a news report about the incident posted by LBC on X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: “Absolutely terrifying footage.
“There is real fear amongst our Jewish communities worldwide about the rise of antisemitism.
“I stand with our Jewish community in Scotland against antisemitism. We can not allow the forces of hatred to divide us.”
