Labour lead over Tories nears 30 POINTS in new poll

Barely one in five people surveyed are standing by the Tories, and Labour are now looking like a formidable force.

Blimey, this makes bad reading for the Tories. New data from People Polling has revealed that the governing party is now trailing Labour by 28 points in the court of public opinion. There has been a surge in support for the official opposition over the last seven months.

Labour open mammoth lead over Tories in latest polls

The voting intention survey shows that a little over one in five respondents – a mere 21% of those quizzed – will be backing the Conservative Party at the next election. The Liberal Democrats and Reform are polling at 9% each.

Labour, meanwhile, are riding on the crest of a wave. Growing numbers are willing to back Keir Starmer as the UK’s next Prime Minister, and there has been a 7% increase in those planning to tick Labour’s box in 2024.

Why people are saying no to the Tories

It’s more ‘read it and weep’ material for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his colleagues. Most opinion polls have Labour leading by margins between 15 to 25 points. However, this new data is a damning indictment of the current government.

Failures in discipline amongst individual Tory MPs, along with a disastrous party conference earlier this month, have turned the electorate against those in power. Sunak has been unable to revive their fortunes, following the chaotic premierships of Liz Truss and Boris Johnson.

Latest polls for the next UK General Election

A General Election is expected to take place in 2024, but it is looking increasingly likely that the PM will leave it as late as possible before confirming when the polls will open – and could even be pushed back to January 2025.

A lot can happen in the next 15 months or so. But the Tories have a very long way back from here.

Westminster Voting Intention:

LAB: 49% (+7)
CON: 21% (-3)
LDM: 9% (=)
RFM: 9% (+1)
GRN: 7% (=)
