Man fatally stabbed in east London sparking 21st murder investigation in capital this year

A man in his mid-20s has been fatally stabbed in east London sparking the 21st murder investigation in the capital so far this year.

The man suffered knife injuries in Leyton just before 4.30pm yesterday.

Despite air ambulance doctors being sent the man died at the scene in North Birkbeck Road just under three quarters of an hour later.

Scotland Yard said: “A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally stabbed in Leyton.

“Police were called to North Birkbeck Road at 4.26pm on Wednesday, 6 March following reports of a stabbing.

“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended a found a man suffering from knife injuries.

“The man, believed to be aged in his mid-twenties died at the scene at 5.10pm

“Police are in the process of informing his next of kin.

“No arrests have been made. A crime scene remains in place.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Formal identification awaits.

“Enquiries continue at the scene.

“The Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and appealing for witnesses to come forward.”
