The brother of a Labour MP accused of lying about who was behind the wheel of a speeding car has admitted perverting the course of justice.

Festus Onasanya, 33, was accused alongside his sister, Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya, of lying about who was driving a speeding car.

She denies one count of perverting the court of justice and will face trial next week.

Her brother today admitted three counts of perverting the course of justice linked to the allegation and two other similar incidents.

He admitted lying to Cambridgeshire Police about who was driving a speeding car on July 24th, 2017, which Ms Onasanya denies.

Mr Onasanya told cops Aleks Antipow was behind the wheel “with the intention of enabling the true driver to avoid prosecution.”

His sister, who was elected as a Labour MP in 2017, also allegedly lied to police about the incident between July 23, 2017, and January 3, 2018.

She did not attend today’s brief plea hearing, which her singer brother, who is on bail, appeared at wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and trainers.

He also admitted two more counts of perverting the course of justice after lying about who was driving a speeding car on two other occasions.

In the first, on June 17, 2017, he lied when he told police a man called Suvradip Paul was behind the wheel.

On the second count, he falsely said Aleks Antipow was driving a speeding car on August 23, 2017.

Ms Onasanya’s trial is expected to begin on November 12.
