At today’s PMQs many in the chamber burst into laughter after Theresa May, again, claimed austerity is coming to a close.

This ‘broken promise’ that austerity had actually ended was first announced by the PM at her party conference.

However she slightly changed her stance and now claims it is ending and not over quite yet.

Flying in the face of her comments, The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) declared the Budget “doesn’t” end austerity – “at least not yet”.

Today the PM again said “austerity is indeed ending”.

The Labour leader then demanded: “Will she apologise for her broken promise that she was going to end austerity because she has failed to do that?”

May then announced: “Ending austerity isn’t just about putting more into public services, it’s about putting more into people’s pockets.”

However Corbyn was not accepting her explanation and went for the jugular.

He said: “Austerity has failed and it needs to end now.

“Only Labour can be trusted to end austerity, end the cuts to those on lowest incomes and invest in our country again.”
