Top 10 Most Common Holiday Social Media Boasts

“I’ve got 99 problems but my beach ain’t one”.

Every summer the social media world is subdued with holiday  Tweets, airport check-ins on Facebook and Instagrammed flutes of Champagne with the mandatory “see you in two weeks” strapline. It’s enough to drive you mad, until of course you’re the one with their feet up on the beach on a Monday morning and the temptation to tell your mates about it becomes too much.

Social media has become a boast magnet and is attracting a deluge of holiday posts as a result. New research has revealed a third of Brits spend more time on Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat while away than talking to their travel companions with the average person uploading 27 photos during and after a holiday.

The survey was conducted by Topdeck Travel to mark the announcement of the second instalment of its Snapchat travel show ‘Topdeck Snaps’, kicking off this March, and found 41 per cent admit to broadcasting their holiday as soon as they book it. The most commonly uploaded holiday photos added to our social media timelines are selfies on the beach, the hotel room and the hotel pool, with other people lazing on the sand and adventurous selfies also favourite boasts amongst holidaymakers.

Hazel McGuire from Topdeck Travel said:  “We know young people want to stay connected while away, but even we were surprised that they can spend more time sharing their experiences via social media as talking to the people they have travelled with. However, while staying connected is great, we encourage our customers make the most of their free time. It’s all about the experience of travel with new cultures, food and people to meet.

“But social media is such a huge part of planning your dream trip; as the end of January approaches travel fans want to start thinking of escapism and social media plays a big part in choosing that escape. Road trips in North America, or catching some sun down under are currently ranking as some of Topdeck’s most popular trips with British audiences, so expect some holiday snaps on your feeds soon!”
