Labour MP Stephen Kinnock slammed a Question Time audience member for a “disgraceful personal slur” against his father and former Labour leader Neil Kinnock.

During an appearance on this week’s edition of the BBC panel show, the Welsh secretary outlined the damage leaving the EU had done to the UK.

After Kinnock had comprehensively explained why returning to the EU would benefit Britain, a Brexiteer in the audience said the MP’s comments “represent everything I hated about the European Union.”

She labelled the bloc a “corrupt, old boys network” before claiming that Kinnock’s family “have done well out of the European Union.”

A few minutes later, Kinnock came back at the audience member, labelling her comments a “disgraceful personal slur” against his father.

“My father is a patriot who’s dedicated his life to public service, and has always stood up for what he believes in, and what he believes to be best for this country,” Aberafan Maesteg MP said.

“You may disagree with his view, but I think it’s frankly disgraceful that you made that personal attack on him.”

After Labour's Stephen Kinnock outlines why it is better for the UK to rejoin the EU, especially in our current geo-political climate, a lady in the audience insults his father saying,

Kinnock then dismantled the woman’s anti-EU argument, using small boat crossings and passport issues as a prime example of how leaving the EU had harmed the UK.

He then asked the woman to name a single Brexit benefit.

The audience member pointed to farming and the UK’s departure from the Common Agricultural Policy, before admitting that it hasn’t worked out very well.

The personal attack on @SKinnock or his father was appalling.
