GB News host tied up in knots over defence of Portsmouth protestors

Michelle Dewberry was reminded that her opinion of the protestors would probably be very different if they were climate activists.

GB News host Michelle Dewbury was tied up in knots by a guest over her somewhat hypocritical defence of anti-migrant protestors in Portsmouth.

Over the weekend, hundreds of black-clad, mask-wearing men blocked roads for hours and faced off against police in Portsmouth.

This was after 140 migrants picked up by lifeboats had been taken to the city instead of Dover.

The scenes have been condemned by many, with the government labelling the protestors “intimidating and thuggish.”

Someone who doesn’t seem to have too much of a problem with what happened though is GB News presenter Michelle Dewbury.

During her show on Tuesday night, Dewberry criticised people and the media for labelling the protestors “far-right.”

She said the scenes in Portsmouth were akin to a peaceful protest who were doing nothing wrong.

Mail on Sunday columnist Dan Hodges, who was a guest on the show, took issue with Dewberry’s words though, pointing out that by blocking the road the protestors had been breaking the law.

He highlighted how if they had been climate activists, Dewberry would have been furious with them.

As Dewberry tried to backtrack, she tied herself in knots. The presenter then laughably claimed that the men involved in the protests had no desire to be there and would rather be at home with their families.

Hodges replied that the men involved clearly “love parading around.”

“Look at them,” he said. “They’re doing that because they get off on it, they love parading around in the gear, they love the masks, they think they look macho.”

He once again highlighted Dewberry’s hypocrisy when she claimed the vast majority of protestors had been peaceful, explaining how she never made this argument when it came to climate, anti-capitalist or pro-Palestine activists.

“There’s absolutely no justification whatsoever in saying, ‘I kind of agree with their cause so I agree with the way they conduct themselves,'” he added.
