Boris Johnson’s odds of leaving his post as prime minister this year has been cut from 11/2 to 5/2 as pressure mounts for him to step down.
The slash in price comes after a desperate week in office for the UK leader where he has faced allegations about the funding of his Downing Street flat refurbishment, as well as reported comments on avoiding further lockdowns.
BoJo is now 5/1 to leave in 2022, 9/2 to leave in 2023 and 10/11 to leave in 2024 or later, while he’s 4/5 to be PM at the time of the next General Election.
Should Johnson leave his post, Rishi Sunak is the 5/2 favourite to succeed him, while Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is 11/4, providing an election takes place.
Michael Gove, who missed out on the Tory leadership race to Johnson in 2019, allegedly now has the backing of Johnson’s former aide Dominic Cummings and is 13/2 to take over, while Jeremy Hunt is 10/1.
Luke Tarr, Head of PR at Star Sports, said: “Pressure is beginning to mount on Boris Johnson and his odds of leaving his post as Prime Minister have now been slashed from 11/2 earlier this week to just 5/2 in the last 24 hours.
“Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak is the 5/2 frontrunner to get the keys to Number 10 should he depart, while Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is close behind at 11/4.”
