QT audience member fumes over ‘bigoted’ tweet during heated debate

Tensions threatened to overspill on Question Time last night as an audience member came to blows with the panel over the escalating situation in the Middle East.

Fiona Bruce was joined by Conservative MP Victoria Atkins and Labour’s Yvette Cooper to discuss events of the past week, as well as Piers Morgan, Dr Halima Begum from Action Aid UK and the editor of the Jewish Chronicle, Jake Wallis Simons.

Among the matters being discussed was the government’s housing push and a lack of “basic competency” in Number 10 which, Morgan argued, leaves the door open for Labour to take up the mantle.

But things got heated when a now-deleted tweet posted by Wallis Simons was raised.

The tweet, which Bruce refused to read out on television, provoked outrage on social media, and while Wallis Simons apologised over the “clumsy wording”, he stood by the central point.
