Policeman rushed to hospital after, literally, shooting himself in the foot

A policeman ended up in hospital after shooting himself in the foot.

The unnamed officer was part of a squad sent to carry out a welfare check in the early hours of this morning (thurs).

Scotland Yard said armed police were deployed sent to the address in Acton, west London, because it had previously been linked to firearms.

But, after completing the call and leaving the property, one of the officers managed to shoot himself in the foot with his gun.

He was taken to a central London hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening.

Police said there were no other injuries and no other shots fired during the incident in Old Oak Common Lane.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “Firearms officers attended an address in Old Oak Common Lane, Acton, to carry out a welfare check on an occupant there at around 4.20am.

“After completing the call and leaving the address, a police firearm was discharged by one of the officers causing an injury to his foot.

“He has been taken to a central London hospital for treatment – his condition is not life threatening.

“There were no other injuries and no other shots fired.

“The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.”

She added: “There was previous information linking firearms to the address.”
