It comes as former ministers Liz Truss and Priti Patel heaped praise on the broadcaster in grovelling speeches.

The prime minister has reportedly snubbed an interview on Channel 4 in favour of GB News, Krishnan Guru-Murthy has said.

Rishi Sunak is facing a backlash from Tories, businesses and northern leaders over a chaotic announcement to save billions of pounds by scrapping the HS2 leg to Manchester.

The Prime Minister is expected to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting to sign off the measures during his party conference in the city most directly hit by the cut.

He is then likely to confirm the decision in his speech to the Conservative membership on Wednesday as he possibly softens the blow by spending on other projects for the North.

But he will evade scrutiny by dodging interviews on public service broadcasters such as Channel 4 in favour of appearances on GB News, according to reports.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the PM’s team has communicated that he no longer has time to speak to the channel.

It comes as a number of former cabinet ministers and a former prime minister used conference speeches to heap praise on GB News, which counts a number of serving Tory MPs among its presenters.

Priti Patel called it “the most successful, most dynamic, no-nonsense news station, and the defenders of free speech” in this grovelling speech.
