People have been resharing Donald Trump’s shocking initial reaction to 9/11 on the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
On Friday, events took place in the US and Britain to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, which claimed the lives of 2,977 people, including 67 Brits.
Trump attended a remembrance ceremony at the Pentagon 9/11 memorial in honour of the 184 people killed at the building when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into it.

He told attendees: “Today we renew the sacred oath that we first swore in their names a quarter of a century ago,” he says. “We will never, ever forget. That’s why we fight today.”
Trump went on to say that “on days like 9/11, we learn what a country is truly made of”.
Well, it may well be that on that same day we got a glimpse of what Trump is truly made of as well – and how much an ego-centric narcissist he is.
During a telephone interview with New Jersey station WWOR on the day of the attack, Trump was asked whether his building in the financial district had suffered any damage and what the situation was for him.
In response, Trump decided to claim that he owned the tallest building in downtown Manhattan now that the World Trade Center towers were no longer standing.
He said: “Forty Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan.
“When they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second tallest. And now it’s the tallest.”
As he does every year on the anniversary of 9/11, journalist Ron Filipkowski shared the clip on his social media.
Several others shared the clip, labelling Trump’s comments “sick” and “disgraceful.”
A reporter who was at WWOR at the time said he was “stunned” by Trump’s comments.
What’s more is that Trump’s claim wasn’t even true. As reported by the Washington Post in 2018, data from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat showed that Forty Wall Street has only been the tallest building in downtown Manhattan for two years, back in the 1930s.
This can therefore be added to a relatively long list of Trump inaccuracies about 9/11. It was only this week that the president was claiming he had been rescued from the rubble on Ground Zero by two fireman.
There is absolutely no evidence that Trump was present at the scene on September 11, 2001, with several publications debunking his claims.
