Panic in Westminster after a car crashed into barriers outside Parliament

Armed police rushed to the Houses of Parliament this morning after a car crashed into a pedestrian barrier.

Dozens of police swarmed the scene and taped off a large area close to Parliament.

The incident, which is not thought to be terror-related, appeared to be scaled down within minutes of unfolding.

It happened at around 7.30am this morning (Tues).

Scores of police vans and several ambulances were at the scene within minutes of the crash, with a car thought to have hit a barrier.

Armed officers stood guard around a cordon, but pedestrians were still passing close to the scene.

Unarmed uniformed officers were also at the scene, which is not thought to be terror-related.

A Met Police spokesperson said the incident was a ‘collision.’
