Murder Squad cops question 16-year-old following London knife murder

Murder Squad detectives were yesterday questioning a 16-year-old lad in connection with another knife murder in London.

A 29-year-old Mercedes driver was fatally stabbed in broad daylight in Hackney, east London, on Friday afternoon.

The victim, who hasn’t been named, was the 41st person to be murdered in the capital this year, 26 of whom have been knifed to death.

A second man, also in his twenties, was found with knife injuries in a nearby street. He remains in a “stable” condition in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Vandenbergh, of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “This was a shocking attack that happened in broad daylight in a residential area.

“Our enquiries have established that the victim was in a black Mercedes car prior to the attack.

“The suspects arrived at the scene in a white Ford SUV type vehicle – at some point the victim has left his car and has been attacked in Frampton Park Road.

“Officers were called at 2.43pm on Friday to reports of a 29-year-old man suffering stab injuries on Frampton Park Road.

“Paramedics attended the scene and the man was taken to an east London hospital where he subsequently died. Next of kin have been informed.

“A second man, believed to be in his 20s, was found a short time after the first attack suffering stab injuries in Wilton Way, Hackney.

“He was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.”

He added: “Work, including CCTV analysis, continues but we also need to speak to people who witnessed this attack and the events surrounding it.

“Were you in the area and did you see anything? If so I would urge you to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible as you may have information that could assist this investigation.”

“A 16-year-old male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at an east London police station.”
