A man has been arrested near Stansted Airport after being found carrying a RIFLE.
Armed police were called following reports of a gunman in possession of a firearm.
The man was detained shortly before noon today after a police helicopter was dispatched to Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex,
The firearm was also recovered close to the scene.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Officers were called shortly before 11.55 to reports that a man carrying a firearm had been seen in Stansted Mountfitchet.
“Police attended the scene and a man has been detained and a firearm has been recovered.
“Inquiries are continuing.”
