Donald Trump is “strongly considering” pulling the US out of NATO over the lack of support he is getting in his war with Iran.

Speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Trump described the alliance as a “paper tiger” and claimed that the decision to remove America from NATO was now “beyond reconsideration”.

Trump went on to claim that Putin thinks the same thing about Nato as he does.

“I was never swayed by NATO,” I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way,” he continued.

Trump’s distain towards the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has always been present since taking office, often criticising smaller European nations for a lack of contribution towards the overall budget.

This has only been exacerbated by the recent war waged on Iran by Israel and the US which was failed to be supported significantly by European nations.

Particularly, European powers have been hesitant to use force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, strategic chokepoint for much of the world’s oil which has led to the price of a barrel skyrocketing.

Trump told The Telegraph: “Beyond not being there, it was actually hard to believe. And I didn’t do a big sale. I just said, ‘Hey’, you know, I didn’t insist too much. I just think it should be automatic.

“We’ve been there automatically, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn’t our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we would always have been there for them. They weren’t there for us.”

The difference being in this scenario is that war was waged on Iran by the US and Israel, while Ukraine was a nation attacked by Russia.

Trump also took the opportunity to criticise Starmer again for not getting the UK involved in the war.

He said: “You don’t even have a navy. You’re too old and had aircraft carriers that didn’t work.

Speaking further on if the PM should spent more on defence, Trump said: “I’m not going to tell him what to do. He can do whatever he wants. It doesn’t matter. All Starmer wants is costly windmills that are driving your energy prices through the roof.”

Just a reminder that what Trump thinks are windmills are in fact wind turbines, which produce more than a third of electricity in the UK, a great protection from crises concerning oil…in the Middle East.
