Daily Mail scores spectacular own goal with Gary Lineker article

"This is fantastic, even by Daily Mail standards", the Match of the Day presenter posted.

The Daily Mail managed to score an own goal that is impressive even by their standards after questioning Gary Lineker’s future as a Walkers brand ambassador.

The newspaper speculated that the Match of the Day host could have been “benched by the firm” after he was nowhere to be seen in its latest advertisement released this month.

They even featured comments from people who have supposedly been boycotting the popular snack, with one reading: “Ha ha I can now eat Walkers crisps again, no troll Lineker in the new advert.”

However, despite his non-show in the commercial, the Leicester-born star is very much still involved with the company.

In fact, he signed a new three-year deal with them on the very day the Mail ran its article!

This is fantastic, even by Daily Mail standards: to run this story on the very day I’ve signed a new 3 year deal with @walkers_crisps is joyous. 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/CNAY1x4yiX
