Alleged drug dealer charged with murder of 52-year-old man in south west London

An alleged drug dealer charged with the murder of a 52-year-old man appeared in court today (WED).

Gerald Matovu, 25, is accused of the murder of Eric Michels who was found dead at his home in Chessington, south west London, on August 17 this year.

Tests revealed that Mr Michels died as a result of acute intoxication by the Class C drug GHB.

Matavou appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court via video link wearing a grey prison issue tracksuit.

The court heard he is also charged with administering GHB without consent to another man on August 19 and stealing his phone.

Matovu is further charged with two other drugs offences – possession of 5ml of GHB at an an address in east London on August 20 and possession with intent to supply 500ml of GHB on August 24 at St Mungo’s Hostel.

He is also accused of fraud by false representation regarding a third alleged victim and of stealing an iPhone 10 regarding a fourth alleged victim.

He is also charged with sexually assaulting one victim with a needle.

Amanda McCabe, prosecuting said: “Mr Matovu is expected to be at the Old Bailey in respect of these matters within 48 hours.”

Matovu, of Borough, south east London, was remanded in custody until his next court appearance at the Old Bailey on Friday.
