Robber who attacked and robbed a 102-year-old relative is caged

A robber who attacked a 102-year-old relative and stole her jewellery and ripped her hearing aid out, has been jailed for eight years.

Ghulam Qudir, 34, visited the victim and pretended he wanted to pay his respects following a death in the family.

He returned to her home in Long Eaton, Derbys., on May 12 when she was alone and barged his way inside.

Qudir restrained her and injured her when he snatched a number of gold bangles from her wrists.

He also removed her earrings and threw her hearing aid and glasses on the floor before fleeing.

Qudir, of Almond Street, Derby, was found guilty of robbery following a trial at
Nottingham Crown Court on October 15.

Speaking after he was jailed for eight years, Detective Constable Claire Croll, of Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “This was a callous and pre-meditated robbery of a vulnerable person who Qudir knew would not be able to fight back or raise the alarm.

“This sentence reflects the severity of the crime and I am pleased that this may give the victim and her family some comfort that justice has been done.”
