In Pics – Fire that destroyed 1,600 cars as car park had NO sprinklers

A huge fire in a multi storey car park in Liverpool near the Liverpool Echo Arena has destroyed over 1400 vehicles inside the car park. The fire started after an accidental fire in one car which spread to other vehicles.

The fire could have been stopped if the building had been fitted with sprinklers. The fire began when a Land Rover burst into flames, the subsequent blaze engulfed seven floors at the Echo Arena on Liverpool’s waterfront.

4,000 had to leave the Liverpool International Horse Show at the arena, due to the increasing danger caused by the out of control fire, which started at around 4pm on New Year’s Eve
