The Weekly Cocktail Recipe – The American Bar at The Savoy’s ‘Malecon’

By Jonathan Hatchman, Food Editor, @TLE_Food

Originally crafted by Erik Lorinza for the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail competition, the Malecon takes inspiration from the essence of what it means to be Cuban – “To accept the inevitabilities of human existence, that we are born and must die, and to make the very best of life and have as good a time as possible.”

Now, tying in with National Rum Day, we have the recipe to share in order for any Rum enthusiasts to attempt to recreate at home this weekend.

Ingredients

50ml Bacardi Superior Rum

10ml Don Jose Oloroso Sherry

3 dashes DR Peychauds

2 bar spoons Caster Sugar

30ml fresh Lime Juice

15ml Smith Woodhouse 10 year-old Port

Method

Mix all the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass and place a single ice cube into the drink.

The American Bar at The Savoy can be found at The Strand, London, WC2R 0EU.
