The Weekly Cocktail Recipe – Oblix’s ‘The Rooster’

By Jonathan Hatchman, Food Editor, @TLE_Food

Inspired by the culture of the streets, the local produce, and the people of Guatemala, The Rooster Cocktail is named after the bird that symbolises the colour, the life and the energy of the Guatemalan streets. Newly available to the bar at Oblix (the first of The Shard’s restaurants) The Rooster is the first Cocktail to feature Zacapa XO Rum, which is accompanied by a contraption of specialty ingredients that include Spiced Orchid Vermouth, Banana Liquer, and Coconut Perfume, as well as an edible flower garnish and Caramel dome. The result is, unsurprisingly, spectacular.

Why not visit the Lounge Bar at Oblix this weekend and enjoy The Rooster as well as the view from the 32nd floor of The Shard before attempting to emulate the drink at home? However, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find a drinks receptacle as marvellous as Oblix’s Rooster vessel.

Ingredients

50ml Zacapa XO Rum

40ml Spiced Orchid Vermouth (Dry Vermouth in Sous Vide with Star Anise and Orchid Flowers)

15ml Banana Liqueur

Coconut perfume

Method

1. Add ingredients to a mixing glass; stir down over big chunks of ice and strain into rooster vessel (or a glass).

2. Spray perfume on top.

3. Garnish with caramel nest and an orchid flower.

Oblix can be found at Floor 32, The Shard, 31 St Thomas Street, London SE1 9RY.
