Beer of the Week – Meantime London Lager

By Jonathan Hatchman, Food Editor, @TLE_Food

Strength: 4.5% ABV

Brewed: Greenwich, London

Founded at the turn of the millennium in a small flat in Greenwich by Brew Master Alastair Hook and some like minded friends, Meantime has since become one of the leading breweries in the British Craft Beer revolution. Having set up their state-of-the-art brewery in 2010, just a stones throw from the Prime Meridian, as well as recently opening The Tasting Rooms, a venue that offers the chance to tour, drink and shop in the company’s main brewery, Meantime’s core bottled range now features 10 bottled Beers, and where better to begin our Beer of the Week feature than with the brand’s London Lager, as a starting point.

Brewed using the finest Hops and malting Barley from neighbouring counties Kent and East Anglia, respectively, to craft the quintessential English Lager. Easy on the nose and on the tongue, London Lager is smooth and flavoursome with an elegant balance of Hops, sweetness and bitterness that we’d expect from some of the Continent’s premium Lagers, including a lingering malt aftertaste. An easily drinkable Beer: team with some Mature Cheese, Smoked Meats or Oily Fish and you’re in for a real treat.

Alternatively, head along to The Tasting Rooms to test some Meantime-infused recipes from the kitchen as well as some draught Lager from the 25th installation of Meantime’s Brewery Fresh Tank concept, protecting the Beer from light, oxygen and fluctuations in temperature, allowing the beer to continually mature and allow consumers to enjoy a straight-from-the-brewery taste.

The Tasting Rooms can be found at Lawrence Trading Estate, Blackwall Lane, London, SE10 0AR. London Lager can be purchased directly from the brewery at meantimebrewing.com.
