World’s first clean air gallery, featuring art made from air pollution, launches in Brixton

Today, the world’s first clean air gallery, featuring art made from air pollution, launched in Brixton – an area that surpassed its annual air pollution limit 5 days into 2017.

The gallery features work by artists from five of the most polluted cities in the UK – London, Glasgow, Leeds, Southampton and Nottingham – and will be open to the public from 27th – 29th March.

Tiger Beer is bringing Anirudh Sharma, co-founder of Graviky Labs and his Air-Ink™ technology to London. This innovative technology could provide up to 30 trillion litres of cleaner air for Londoners annually. At a time when Britain regularly breaches its legal air pollution limits, Tiger Beer has launched the world’s first Clean Air Gallery featuring art made out of air pollution, demonstrating the power of creativity with purpose.

Each artist will showcase art using Air-Ink™ symbolising a bright future for their cities’ streets. All artworks will be donated back to the local communities that inspired each artist.

Graviky’s technology can capture up to 95% of carbon soot from diesel exhausts, stopping it entering the atmosphere. The captured pollution is then transformed in to Air-Ink™. If, for example, if Graviky’s units were fitted to all 22,000 of London’s iconic black cabs, the technology could provide up to 30 trillion litres of cleaner air for Londoners annually.

“All innovations start small. Tiger Beer believes in supporting people with brave ideas, and partnering with them to uncage the tiger spirit and create awareness and positive change for issues affecting our communities. By bringing artists and inventor together, we are turning the world into a canvas for Anirudh’s message in a beautiful and transformative way.” says Mie-Leng Wong, Global Director at Tiger Beer, HEINEKEN Asia Pacific.

Anirudh comments, “Growing up in India and experiencing the effects of air pollution first-hand motivated me to think of ways to turn this harmful pollution into something useful – purified, safe ink. Now, seeing artworks created with Air-Ink™ displayed here in the UK is truly an exciting step for me and my team. This collaborative initiative with Tiger is a beautiful fusion between technology, science, and art, and has taken our technology further than I could have imagined. The next step in the Air-Ink™ journey is to collaborate with a city like London to help scale up the technology to create a positive impact.”

Believing that the best ideas are often born on the streets and not in corporate boardrooms, Tiger is kicking off its global Air-Ink™ initiative on the streets of London before continuing on to Berlin, New York and Singapore. Demonstrating the power of street creativity, 19 artists from a range of cultures will transform the collected pollution into Air-Ink™ artworks showing a bright future of each city.
