Thames Water could be effectively nationalised if it goes bust, according to reports in the Guardian newspaper.
Chris Weston will become the firm’s chief executive from January 8.
Ministers are said to be working on contingency plans for the utility giant’s emergency nationalisation as concerns grow over its £14bn debt pile.
It joins Welsh Water,Southern Water and South East Water and South West Water in implementing bans, with Yorkshire Water following suit soon.
The company, which supplies water to 15 million customers across London and the Thames Valley, says a ban is imminent.

Britain’s largest water supplier is getting on average one complaint a year for every ten households it serves.
