A 25-year-old garage worker whose own car broke down on Christmas Day is celebrating after winning with TWO dream cars and a £20k cash prize.
Kieran Groom was stunned to win two supercars worth almost £90k in a New Year’s Eve competition just a week after his 11-year-old Ford Focus broke down.
Kieran, who works at Mercedes Cambridge, was left speechless after being handed the keys to a Mercedes A35 AMG worth £36k and a Porche Cayman S worth £52k.
He won the motors in a Best of the Best (BOTB) competition where punters buy tickets for a chance to win their dream cars.
The lucky winner said: “I drive Mercedes cars around the forecourt every day, but I never thought I would actually ever own one.
“The A35 AMG is so new that we haven’t even had one in at work yet, none of the dealerships have, and now I own one. It’s crazy.”
The win was made even sweeter since Kieran has been relying on the generosity of his colleagues to get to work since his car broke down a week ago.
He said: “I was visiting my dad on Christmas day when my car broke down – I wasn’t sure how I was going to replace it.
“I was looking at the options with my girlfriend and we saw that the BOTB ‘In the Headlights’ prize was two cars.
“We said we might as well give it a go as we had nothing to lose. I just can’t believe that I won.”
Kieran has been playing BOTB for three years and was surprised with the good news at work by BOTB’s presenter Christian Williams.
The kind-hearted man, from Cambourne, Cambs., said he will give his girlfriend, Jessica, the Mercedes and share the £20k cash prize with his mum.
Kieran said he was planning to spend New Year’s Eve at home with his mum and wanted to surprise her with the good news.
He added: “She’s had a bit of a hard time lately so some of the £20k cash will be going straight to her.”
BOTB presenter Christian Williams said it was “really special” to hand Kieran the keys to two amazing cars.
The luxury car company has handed over the keys to more than £25m-worth of supercars since starting up 20 years ago.
Each week former professional footballers such as England international Sol Campbell are bought in to judge the competition, alongside current and former referees.
Best of the Best is a competition company where players buy tickets for their dream cars and play “Spot the Ball”, which gives people the chance to win their chosen car.
Players are shown a sporting picture with the ball removed and contestants have to use their skill to pinpoint the missing object.
At the end of each week, the “Spot the Ball” competition is judged by a panel of sporting experts and the winner is the person closest to the judge’s chosen position.
