Jonas Gutierrez Was Dropped Because Of Cancer

An employment tribunal has ruled that Jonas Gutierrez was dropped by Newcastle United because of his cancer diagnosis.

The Argentinian midfielder had a clause in his contract that would trigger an extension to his deal, but he was denied a deal through appearances, a decision made by the then club manager Alan Pardew.

He had been a regular in the team before his diagnosis, making an incredible 177 appearances.

The 32-year-old is suing the Magpies for in the region of £2 million on the grounds of disability discrimination. A further hearing will take place to discuss compensation.
