Arsenal fan has denied pushing Man United player during Premier League clash

An Arsenal fan has denied pushing Man United player Chris Smalling during a Premier League clash.

Pitch invader Gary Cooper, 30, was arrested during the game at the Emirates Stadium on March 10.

He was caught on camera allegedly shoving the centre back and later charged with common assault.

Cooper, of Chertsey, Surrey, admitted one charge of entering into the playing area during the football match.

But standing in front of Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, Cooper denied a charge of assault by beating.

When asked would a trial date be convenient , Cooper said: “Not really, I’ve lost my job over this and it will take me a while to get here.”

Defending, June Grattan said: “It should be resolved once we see the CCTV. It will not take long.”

Chief magistrate Dani Jayes said: “There is going to be a trial for this matter, we need to get some paperwork together.

“If you are not here a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

“The other matter you have pleaded guilty to will be dealt with after the trial.”

He is to stand trial in May at the same court.
