Bookmakers receive surge of bets on England to win the World Cup following Panama victory

One fifth of all bets placed with Betway on England to win the 2018 World Cup have been staked since the final whistle of England v Panama on Sunday.

The bookmaker has been experiencing a patriotic betting frenzy since Three Lions’ 6-1 demolition of Panama yesterday lunchtime, reporting 20 per cent of all bets placed on England to win the World Cup have been in the last 24 hours.

England are now just 9/1 with Betway to go all the way in Russia, having started the tournament at odds of 16/1.

Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “Some 20% of the total bets on England to win the World Cup have been placed since yesterday’s final whistle. It’s an absolutely remarkable gamble when you consider that our markets on the tournament have been live since the groups were drawn back in December.”
