“The laws created by Parliament are clear. There is no absolute power to ban protest", Sir Mark Rowley said.
"They're there to express a deeply held view. And I think it must be allowed to go ahead", Lord Soames said.
"This isn't a legislative programme for a year, we could get all of this done in a fortnight and then have a general election."
The King’s Speech will include a number of announcements on the Government’s plans to tackle crime.
"In a democratic country police forces shouldn't be telling citizens when they should and shouldn't exercise their right to protest, at the behest of government ministers."
The First Minister said he was ‘beyond angry’ at the UK Government’s response to the march.
The former prime minister reportedly used the phrase at a meeting in January 2021, when he wanted a path to eased restrictions.
