Jonathan Ashworth sends pointed message to Suella Braverman on Question Time

Jonathan Ashworth has hit out at the home secretary after she declared that multiculturalism has “failed” in Europe and threatens social cohesion.

The shadow paymaster general, who has been the MP for Leicester South since 2011, criticised Suella Braverman after she said a “misguided dogma of multiculturalism” has allowed people to come to the UK with the aim of “undermining the stability and threatening the security of society”.

She said “the consequence of that failure” are evident “on the streets of cities all over Europe,” pointing to clashes in Leicester as an example.

But Ashworth has refuted the claims in an impassioned Question Time appearance.

He said: “Don’t dare attack my city and try to use Leicester as a pawn in your game to become the next Tory leader”.
