Prince Harry and Meghan Markle serve up political pie to stave off Trump repercussions

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not have an official list of political leaders on the guest list when they marry on May 19th.

The news was revealed today following months of speculation over whether US President Donald Trump would be invited to the wedding.

Former President Barack Obama, who is a close friend of Prince Harry, has also missed out on an invitation, and Prime Minster Theresa May will not been invited.

Sources close to the pair say the political snub is to avoid a “diplomatic row”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, they said: “President Trump will not be invited because the wedding will be for friends and family only.

“It won’t be a state occasion. If Mr Obama was invited, the invitation could look like a snub to Mr Trump, and His Royal Highness would not wish to cause a diplomatic row”.

Royal sources said the guest list will be restricted to those who have a direct relationship with the couple, and was taken both because St George’s Chapel is relatively small, and because the prince is not in the direct line of succession.

Some members of the public have received an invitation to wait in the grounds outside the chapel to watch the bride and groom and their wedding guests arrive and leave.
