A husband has been charged with murder after his wife went missing – TWENTY years ago.

Debbie Griggs was four-and-a-half months pregnant when she disappeared in May, 1999.

The mum-of-three was 34 when she disappeared from her home in Walmer, Kent.

Kent Police announced yesterday they had arrested and charged her husband, Andrew Griggs, on suspicion of murder.

Griggs, 56, was arrested at his home in St Leonards, Dorset, this morning.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.

Detective Superintendent Paul Fotheringham, Head of Major Crime at Kent Police, said:
“Debbie Griggs was 34 years old when she went missing from her home in Walmer, Deal, late on the evening of Wednesday 5 May 1999.

“Despite extensive searches and appeals for information detectives were unable to locate Debbie, who was a devoted mother of three young children and expecting her fourth child.”

There are active Facebook pages devoted to Debbie.

On one page, Debbie Elizabeth Griggs is Missing, it was announced that Debbie’s mum passed away earlier this year.

On January 12, they wrote: “We have very sad news to bring you tonight.

“Debbie’s mum, Pat Cameron, passed away yesterday morning in the early hours.

“May she rest in peace.”

Griggs is set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.
