London’s Best New Restaurant Openings – February

By Jonathan Hatchman, Food Editor, @TLE_Food

Blacklock – Soho

Best known for his work at Hawksmoor, Gordon Ker’s new restaurant – Blacklock – will open in Soho this month. Heavily inspired by”Joe Beef in Montreal, roadside shacks in Portugal and the US to the Turkish Ocakbasis off the Kingsland Road,” the restaurant is set to focus on serving top-quality beef, pork, lamb and veal chops. Cooked especially on a homemade charcoal grill before being seared with hot irons, made in the 1800s by a Deep South foundry named Blacklock – the restaurant’s namesake – providing a crispy exterior while leaving a pink, juicy middle. And as well as serving some delicious chops, you can also expect some £5 cocktails to appear upon the menu. Absolute bargain.

Blacklock is set to open on February 16th and can be found at 25 Great Windmill Street, W1D 7LG.

Blixen – Spitalfields

Nestled just between the city and the trendy areas of Shoreditch and Hoxton, a brand new Brasserie restaurant in the heart of Spitalfields. The trendy new informal restaurant that is set to feature Clive Watson of Village London’s contemporary take on European Brasserie will offer a haven for “coffee drinkers and laptop users”, offering a wide selection of plug sockets for the aspiring writers, set to become a Utopia for the East-end hipster and foodies alike.

Blixen is set to open on February 9th and can be found at 65A Brushfield Street, E1 6AA

Boom Burger – Brixton

As if running a hugely successful Caribbean style Burger restaurant in Portobello Road wasn’t enough for Josh De Lisser, the Jamaica-born chef will be bringing Boom Burger south of the river, with a new outpost set to open within Brixton Market this month. Set to include popular menu staples from the original Notting Hill branch, such as the restaurant’s famed Jerk Chicken Burger and Plantain fries, as well as some new exclusives for the Brixton premises.

Boom Burger is set to open this month and can be found at 1 Brixton Station Road, SW9 8PA.

Chiswick Smoke House

Gastro pub operator Noble Inns are set to takeover a new premise in Chiswick, this month, set to open another Smokehouse, following the success of the Islington Smokehouse. Set to focus on barbecued meat, however the real focus will be upon the flavor of the meat after the smoking, juxtaposed to the trend of serving meat soaked in copious amounts of BBQ sauce which has become all too popular in recent years. Also set to feature a Whiskey room, a meat ageing room, a smoke room as well as an outdoors grill that’s vast enough to grill a whole hog. Our mouths are already watering.

Chiswick Smokehouse is set to open this month and can be found at 12 Sutton Lane North, W4 2LD

Draft House – Hammersmith

With six Draft House venues already open across the city, Publican Charlie McVeigh is set to open a new Hammersmith pub later in the month. Set to take over The Laurie Arms, located just a stones throw from the Hammersmith Palais, McVeigh’s seventh Draft House will boast an interior that pays homage the iconic music venue, demolished in 2013. Meanwhile, the venue will also offer an extensive range of craft beers, as well as a menu that contains a selection of pies, all served with mushy peas, mashed potato, and a choice of either gravy or liquor.

Draft House Hammersmith is set to open on February 26th and can be found at 238 Shepherd’s Bush Road, W6 7NL

Tapas Revolution – Shoreditch

Following the success of his Tapas Revolution restaurants in London’s Westfield (the Shepherd’s Bush one) and Bluewater shopping center in Kent, Spanish chef Omar Allibhoy is set to open his third Tapas Revolution, in Shoreditch, this month. Continuing to bring his Spanish food mission to our shores, the new restaurant is set to offer some high-quality Tapas dishes sourced from across Spain. Showcasing the chef’s personal interpretation of the bustling bars in his hometown of Madrid. Boasted a menu that’s divided into a simple four sections (meat, fish, vegetables and egg dishes) as well as a handful of seasonal specials, including the classic ‘Paella los Jueves’ following the tradition of serving Paella once a week on a Thursday.

Tapas Revolution is set to open this month and can be found at 58 Bethnal Green Road, E1 8JW
