An Idiot’s Adventures In Gameland – Steve McNeil

#8 – I’d Love To See You There

This week is one of those weeks where everything collides at once. On Monday and Tuesday I was rehearsing for the musical, Failed States, which we’ll be performing one more time at the Latitude Festival on Sunday, 5.45pm in the Theatre venue.

If anyone wants to come along and see what happens when a chubby guy in his 30s from Milton Keynes that plays computer games for a living pretends to be an American CIA agent singing a love song to a suspected terrorist whilst torturing him, this is probably one of Suffolk’s top 10 ways to scratch that itch this weekend. I’m being facetious of course (am I ever not?) – the show has won a number of awards and is written and performed by an incredible team who are letting me get involved again too – I’d love to see you there.

After preparing for that each day, I whizzed over to the Royal Institution for the evenings with ‘King’ Rob Sedgebeer, to test out the technology for our live interactive videogaming/comedy show, WiFi Wars, in their main lecture hall. We’ll be presenting a lecture there next week about our tech but – having never attempted the show with such a large number of people before, and with the venue having a very different sort of layout to our previous gigs – we wanted to check if our kit actually worked, before we look like idiots in front of 400 clever people next Tuesday. If you want to be one of the 400, you can grab a ticket here – if you’re quick, it’s selling fast. The show has been a labour of love for me and Rob for the last six months, so I’d love to see you there too.

Wednesday was something of a write off, as I had to catch up with all the stuff I’d not managed to do. There’s a couple of exciting things coming up that I can’t tell you about yet (urgh, this is like one of those tedious facebook posts, isn’t it – “OMG great news coming guys, can’t say much but watch this space”) but I can tell you that, if you’re going to Play Margate in August, I’ll be hosting the evening entertainment from the wonderful guys at Gamerdisco. It’s going to be a lot of fun so… I’D LOVE TO SEE YOU THERE.

Yesterday I was recording all those Minecraft voiceovers I was banging on about here last week and then popped over to Chris Slight’s gaff for our weekly twitch stream. If you’ve not checked that out yet, maybe subscribe to our channel so we can notify you whenever we go live – I, and I’m sure Chris too, would love to see you there.

If you can’t make it to WiFi Wars next Tuesday, there’s a chance to catch a preview of it as part of Milton Keynes Comedy Festival tomorrow so, if you’re up that way and fancy it, grab a ticket. One ticket gets you access to the whole day’s shows!

On behalf of all the acts performing, we’d love to see you there.
