Video shows moment tsunami hits Indonesian island after earthquake

Mobile phone footage circulating on social media shows a wave of around two metres height hitting the Indonesian island of Palu after the second of two earthquakes rocked Indonesia.

According to reports, an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale hit Central Sulawesi shortly after a 6.0-magnitude quake killed one and injured at least 10 people in Donggala, Central Sulawesi, on Friday afternoon.

The earthquake caused a tsunami to hit Palu, which can be seen in this video.

The waters appear to completely overwhelm restaurants on the beach and damage a local mosque next to a busy shopping mall.

No casualty details have emerged from the region yet.

Indonesian disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said a tsunami has hit another city, Donggala, too after the earthquake.

The waters have now receded.
