PLAYLIST: Best of AUGUST 2018

Look out your window now. If you’re in the UK anywhere near the month of September, chances are you have been greeted with a sheet-grey sky and, more likely than not, rain. Time might be a human construct but the Jetstream bloody knows when it’s the 1st September.

Anyway we haven’t talked about any music yet, mostly because August was a month which belonged to two artists in particular who are close to our hearts at TLE – IDLES and Mitski. These are two releases you can just add to AOTY countdowns right now, don’t even worry about it. IDLES’ Joy As an Act of Resistance is as timely-sounding a punk album as you are likely to find, shot through with a story of debilitating human loss, scathing social commentary and inimitable Bristol humour. Mitski’s Be The Cowboy meanwhile is her most neurotic release yet, serving unfiltered insight into her lovelorn psyche with a disco side salad. Both unmissable releases.

Elsewhere you can find unbridled prog fun with Oh Sees, the return of Drug Church and a rather lovely instrumental surprise in Dorian Concept’s new one. Not bad, eh?
